We are looking for the most innovative business ventures that provide a tech solution for Public Health, Public Education, Public Housing, Public Transportation and Public Safety. Pitches can consist of slide decks, video presentation or a combination of slide decks and video presentations totaling three-minutes in length.
The cohort will consist of 13 sessions that will help each team understand how to think through the process of getting their ventures off the ground and positioned to succeed. Sessions on developing sound business structures, creating a lean business startup canvas model, exploring the customer journey, securing government contracts, writing business profiles that get attention, preparing your Investor guide and more.
The $50,000 in seed funding is a convertible note (essentially a loan} that you pay back to the Los Angeles Chapter of Blacks in Technology after two years, with 6% interest per annum. You have the option to convert the note into equity in the company after the two-year period if you've received further investment during the two years.
Accelerate Black LA Program (ABLA) – a lean business startup canvas accelerator. This year’s Program will accept 5 start-ups in a 13-week program with an investment of $50,000 and structured mentoring whose technologies and ventures address one or more of five major City of Los Angeles issues:
Goal Create launchpad for Black Founders to address public issues by developing MVPs for Housing, Health, Education, Transportation and Safety
Objective Over a 13-week period we will provide the resources to help the Cohort finalists develop and launch their MVP focused on the above areas.
